Will it be elementary students singing an extended apology or a colourful personal essay on politically incorrect jokes?

You have till midnight tonight (October 30) to vote for either Vancouver playwright and director Amiel Gladstone or Ojibway playwright, novelist, and scriptwriter Drew Hayden Taylor, who squared off this week as part of CBC Radio's q's attempt to find an artist in residence.

As part of the competition, the station is having six artists square off in four rounds with commissioned works.

For the battle between Gladstone and Hayden Taylor, the artists were given the theme "We're sorry you're offended.

In response to q's theme, Gladstone wrote a piece performed by "Ms. Norick's Grade 2/3 class at Queen Victoria Annex in East Vancouver". In it, a child apologizes for everything from cheating to being overly emotional--putting an ironic, innocent spin on adult anxieties.

For his part, Hayden performs a characteristically wry essay about Native and other supposedly "offensive" jokes, and why they offend or shouldn't.

The new artist in residence, when chosen, is to be the show's go-to for creative commentary on matters of artistic and cultural significance.
