Bluesy guitar great Matt Andersen plays the Vogue this winter

Vancouver guitar freaks take note: Canadian picker Matt Andersen has just announced a show at the Vogue Theatre on February 18.

The big-voiced six-string virtuoso out of New Brunswick has been getting a lot of attention in the last few years. He won a Maple Blues Award for male vocalist of the year in 2014, and also received a Juno nomination for his latest album, last year's Weightless.

When I interviewed Andersen last year I told him that was a bit surprised by the lack of any extended guitar solos on that album. I was surprised because I'm a big fan of exended guitar solos.

“I am too!” he said with a laugh, "I am too. We just focused more on the songs and the instrumentation. When we made the album, we didn’t want it to turn into guitar solos on every song. I do that lots when I play live.”

Tickets for Andersen's Vancouver show go on sale this Friday at 10 am at Live Nation.
