      1960s Hollywood garage-rock band the Sloths take the stage at Cobalt.

      Australian alt-dance trio Rufus Du Sol performs on its You Were Right tour at Venue.

      RCE presents West Coast indie-funk band Tiny Islands at the Orpheum Annex.

       

      BENEFITS

      The Jingle Bell Ball features a live band, dancing, entertainment, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Held at the Pan Pacific Hotel.

      At Cityscape Community Art Space, you can learn more about Raven’s powerful and heartfelt video installation On Native Land.

      The Hot Art Wet City Gallery hosts an evening of talks by Ben Z Cooper, Jacqueline Robins, Renée MacDonald, M.A.Tateishi, Ross den Otter, Simone Richmond, Toby Barratt / Propellor Design, and Christina Norberg.

       

      DANCE

      Ballet BC presents a world premiere by Belgian-born choreographer Stijn Celis, the Canadian premiere of Solo Echo by Vancouver-based choreographer Crystal Pite, and Twenty Eight Thousand Waves by resident choreographer Cayetano Soto. Held at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

      In celebration of Simon Fraser University’s 50th anniversary, SFU Library is launching One Book, One SFU at the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema.

      Local crime and mystery writers E.R. Brown, Dietrich Kalteis, and Sam Wiebe read from their works, have a panel discussion, and answer questions. Held at the Burnaby Public Library McGill Branch.

      Local author Michael Christie reads from his Scotiabank Giller Prize long-listed book If I Fall, If I Die. Held at the Smilin' Buddha Restaurant.

       

      MUSIC

      UBC Opera presents Manon, Jules Massenet's opera about a man who falls in love with an innocent but lively young lady. Held at the Old Auditorium.

       

      THEATRE

      It's your first chance to catch Almost Maine at the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre.

      The United Players present the first night of director Adam Henderson's version of Alan Bennett's People. Held at the Jericho Arts Centre.

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents the premiere of A Christmas Story, the Musical (pictured above) at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

       

      MOVIES

      The Vancouver Jewish Film Festival opens at Cineplex Fifth Avenue Cinemas.

      The Vancouver Asian Film Festival opens at Cineplex Odeon International Village.
