Stephen Harper's Grammy news release doesn't mention his nemesis

Stephen Harper's publicity machine never gets a rest.

Tonight, the prime minister issued a statement congratulating all of the Canadians who were nominated for Grammy Awards, singling out the winners by name.

"Highlights include Michael Bublé, for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and Jennifer Gasoi, for Best Children's Album," Harper declared. "We are very proud that Canadians continue to garner international acclaim for their very diverse contributions to the music industry."

There was no mention in Harper's news release of Neil Young, who recently called the Conservative government "an embarrassment" and "a very poor imitation of the George Bush administration in the United States".

This came in response to Harper's full-speed-ahead approach to the tar sands, which Young likened to Hiroshima.

Young and Crazy Horse were nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album for Psychedelic Pill, which lost to Led Zeppelin's Celebration Day.

Before anyone goes a little loopy about the Young omission, keep in mind that Harper also didn't mention Drake.

He was shut out in the Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Perfomance categories.

Still, it's hard not to feel like Harper's spinmeisters felt the need to issue a statement to offset some of the sting caused by Young's recent remarks.

Let's just hope these hacks weren't getting paid time-and-a-half on the taxpayers' dime for doing this on a Sunday.

So what is this about David Hume sceptically not knowing politics from history? And let mathematics rule our educated imaginations for physical reality.

Rednecks clear away for the new tide. If you have nothing to offer, don't hinder the rest.

The history of the Mackenzie River estuary can be checked on the Wikipedia, but can we really know what the "MUSKEG" is about?

Steve, the acceptable way for a PM to respond would be to congratulate the winners and all the other Canadians who were nominated, wouldn't you say.

But for someone who only needs 39% of the popular vote to have the audacity to speak on behalf of all Canadians one doesn't expect any better.
