The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors the Rendez-vous French Film Festival

      The 20th annual Rendez-vous French Film Festival takes place from February 7 to 16 across various Vancouver venues. During that time, approximately 50 shorts, feature films, and documentaries in French with English subtitles will be screened.

      The film La Maison du Pêcheur will open the festival with a screening at the Jules Verne Auditorium (5445 Baillie Street) on February 7 at 7:30 p.m. The film tells the story of two brothers. Jacques and Paul Rose, who meet Francis Simard in Quebec's pre-FLQ summer of 1969. Director Alain Chartrand will be present.

      Other festival highlights include Salon du cinema, which will host a screening of La Langue à Terre and a lecture by anthropologist Serge Bouchard. Films, such as Le chant des ondes / The Wavemakers, La Pirogue, Le Démantèlement (The Auction), Une Jeune Fille, Grigris, Alphée des Étoiles, Il était une fois les Boys, and Yukon parle français will also be shown during the festival.

      Tickets to film screenings can be purchased online in advance or at the door, 30 minutes prior to the first screening each day.
