Religious backlash against Femen; Catholic draws links to devil
A conservative Wisconsin-based Catholic website—which promises to "promote and defend the true teachings" of the faith—has linked the sextremist group Femen to the devil.
On the Bellarmine Forum, writer John B. Manos opens his article by saying Femen members "raided a cathedral in Spain", allegedly screaming that abortion is "sacred".
"I can’t help it but to think of the demoniac at the Gerasenes," Manos writes. "The Gospels tell us the guy was naked, violent, so violent in fact that he could not be kept in chains. And he was schizophrenic. When asked his name, he replied 'My name is legion, for we are many.' "
The Femen demonstrator declared: "My name is Femen, for we are many".
The group, which was created in Ukraine, opposes patriarchy, organized religion, and efforts to discriminate against the LGBT community.
In its demonstrations, Femen members remove their tops, using their bodies to shock their opponents. They've devoted a great deal of attention to highlighting repression in Russia under President Vladimir Putin.
A Femen protester also went topless in a Catholic cathedral in Cologne on Christmas Eve.
Femen justified its action with the following message:
Europe , wake up , you have to be an idiot to take seriously these sermons parody inquisitors. Everything smells of rot should be buried immediately! Long live woman! Long live the science!
MY PUSSY MY RULES! I AM GOD!
