Skiers Alex Bilodeau and Mikael Kingsbury take Canada to the top of the Olympic medal count

Canada narrowly missed a sweep of the podium today (February 10), placing first, second, and fourth in freestyle skiing men’s moguls.

Alex Bilodeau captured a gold medal while Mikael Kingsbury took silver and Marc-Antoine Gagnon placed fourth. All three men hail from Quebec, with Bilodeau from Montreal, Kingsbury from Deux-Montagnes, and Gagnon from Terrebonne.

Russia’s Alexandr Smyshlyaev took bronze.

Philippe Marquis, another athlete from Quebec, ranked second in the first round and ninth in the second, but didn’t qualify for the finals.

Bilodeau’s win makes him the first mogul skier to successfully defend a gold medal after he captured the top podium spot at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Bilodeau and Kingsbury’s medals boost Team Canada to the front of the trophy count for Sochi. On day four of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Canada is in first place with three gold, three silver, and one bronze.
