Dara Howell and Kim Lamarre capture two more Olympic medals for Canada in women’s slopestyle

Team Canada athletes apparently prefer to stand atop the top of the Olympic podium in pairs.

Today (January 11) Dara Howell of Huntsville, Ontario, and Kim Lamarre of Lac-Beauport, Quebec, captured gold and bronze medals respectively in the freestyle skiing women’s slopestyle event at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

Those wins come one day after Québécois skiers Alex Bilodeau and Mikael Kingsbury finished first and second in the freestyle skiing men’s moguls.

Speaking shortly after their victories, Howell and Lamarre both paid homage to Canadian freestyle pioneer Sara Burke, who died in a halfpipe accident in Utah in 2012.

“I said earlier this week that I hope maybe a Canadian can bring home a gold medal and it'll definitely be for Sarah,” Howell said.

Vancouver/Whistler-native Yuki Tsubota and Montreal’s Kaya Turski also competed in women’s slopestyle but crashed out before the final round of competition.

Turksi was favourited for a gold medal but was struggling with an injured ACL. Tsubota’s fall on the course is captured below.
