Facebook adds custom gender options: trans, intersex, cisgender, and more

Facebook has changed its profile options in order to be inclusive of people who fall outside or cross the gender binary.

In addition to "male" and "female", users can choose a gender setting called "custom". That gives access to numerous gender options.

Now trans, two-spirit, intersex, pangender, genderqueer, bigender, gender variant, and agender people can identify as such. And those aren't all the options.

Gender-conforming allies can even choose to identify themselves as cisgender. Indeed, users can select multiple gender identities.

However, when indicating what gender they are interested in, users still only have women and men as choices.

Nevertheless, recognition of the diversity of gender by a social-media giant is something to applaud.
