Canadian figure skater Patrick Chan was aiming for gold, but it wasn't to be.

Chan today (February 14) earned a silver medal in the men's event.

Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu won the gold, and Denis Ten of Kazakhstan took bronze.

“All Canadians are proud of Patrick’s performance here in Sochi. He now has an individual Olympic medal to add to his successful resume which includes multiple Canadian and World Championship titles,” said Marcel Aubut, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee, in a news release. “The entire Canadian family congratulates Patrick and his support team on today’s medal.”

Chan and his teammates already won silver in the figure skating team competition.

Canada has now racked up 11 medals (four gold, five silver, and two bronze) at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
