Canada’s men’s hockey team is on its way to the quarterfinals. Today (February 16), Drew Doughty led the squad to a 2-1 overtime victory over Finland.

The defenceman from London, Ontario, scored for Team Canada about 14 minutes into the first period and then again for the win with 2:28 left in overtime.

Those were Doughty’s third and fourth goals of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, making him Canada’s leading scorer after three games.

“I don’t know what’s going on,” Doughty told reporters after the match. “I don’t score like this in L.A. at all. A lot of it is just my teammates—they’re doing a great job of getting me the puck.”

A third goal scored by Brampton’s Rick Nash was disallowed because of a high stick. Replays show that Nash never touched the puck but hit it off the top of Finland’s goal by using his stick to slash at the netting. From there, the puck fell over the goal line off the back of goaltender Tuukka Rask.

Montreal Canadiens’ netminder Carey Price, who started in Team Canada's first game, a victory against Norway, played a solid game. Coach Mike Babcock started Price instead of Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo, who got a shutout against Austria. Price made only 14 saves for the win but that proved enough.

Tuomo Ruutu scored Finland’s only goal.

Canada’s men’s hockey team is back on the ice Wednesday (February 19), when it takes on the either Latvia or Switzerland. Babcock has declined to say whether Luongo or Price will start in net for that match.
