Like Patrick Chan, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir travelled to Sochi, Russia, hoping to bring home gold medals.

And just like their teammate, the ice dancing pair ended up earning silver medals for their efforts at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The 2010 Olympic champions in ice dancing were beat by Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

“We knew that this was a risk coming back to defend a title,” Virtue said, quoted in a post on the Canadian Olympic Committee website. “And that’s something we didn’t want to shy away from. As competitors we embrace that challenge and I think that’s what sport is all about.”

Russia’s Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov took the bronze.

Virtue and Moir previously earned silver medals in the figure skating team event at Sochi.
