North Vancouver continues to gain socially progressive ground: it now has its first gender-neutral washroom in a school.

Seycove Secondary, located in Deep Cove, opened the washroom, consisting of a single stall in a handicapped washroom with an inclusive, gender-neutral sign on the door, in November.

According to the North Shore News, the school's Queer Straight Alliance Club lobbied the school administration for it.

The Vancouver School Board passed a motion in June 2014 for gender-neutral washrooms in all school buildings. The VSB's update to their sexual orientation and gender identity policy sparked controversy and debate, and criticism from parents.

In other signs of inclusivity on the North Shore, North Vancouver's city hall and school board both flew the rainbow flag during Pride Week at the end of July this year.
