Encyclopedia House will soon be demolished

In early October, Encyclopedia House opened to considerable fanfare.

Created by artist Don Li-Leger with support of Friends of the Grove, it was intended to draw awareness to homelessness and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

It's stood as a beacon in the forested area outside the Newton Recreation Centre in Surrey. What make this home so remarkable is that it was built from encyclopedia sets, school texts, and other reference materials.

But soon, the house of books will disappear.

Surrey Now's Tom Zillich has reported that a party will be held late Sunday (December 6) afternoon in the area known as the Grove.

Participants are being encouraged to bring along items that can be given to the needy.

The following day, Encyclopedia House will be demolished.

And no, it won't be to make room for another high-rise.
