During the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Ladner Leisure Centre was in the North American spotlight when Today Show host Matt Lauer showed up for a hockey shootout with crooner Michael Bublé.

Flashforward to the next Winter Olympics, and the ice rink and fitness facility is behind yellow tape after the exterior eastern façade buckled.

Delta's chief administrative officer George Harvie issued a statement saying the damage occurred at 10:30 a.m., causing the evacuation of staff and patrons.

"The weight room, fitness centre, ice arena, and rear parking lot are closed until further notice," the statement reads. "The customer service area and all pools at the Ladner Leisure Centre remain open under their normal hours of operation."
