Dude Chilling Park sign goes up in East Vancouver

    1 of 2 2 of 2

This morning, park commissioner Sarah Blyth and the dude who brought forward a petition to rename an East Vancouver park, Dustin Bromley, unveiled the new sign at what is still officially known as Guelph Park.

The artist who made the sign for Dude Chilling Park, Viktor Briestensky, was in Berlin, according to Blyth.

Some in the neighbourhood argued that the sign sent the wrong message to kids, but the commissioners decided to allow it anyway.

If Bromley looks familiar, it may be because he was on the cover of the Georgia Straight last summer.

This is just stupid. Take the sign down and put one with the park's proper name back up.

Then again, it's East Van so it should be vandalized in about an hour or two

It's a wonderful idea and I'm glad the Parks Board allowed it. The sign is personal, unique, and a bit eccentric.

In a city riddled with identical blue-glass towers, each as boring to look at as the rest, it's nice to see a sign that raises a difference, and a laugh.

We could do worse than have a few off-kilter signs around. If only we had a Scottish district, we could have an off-kilter park.

Ohh... wait a minute. That could be misunderstood.... and so much the better.

Please file this whole issue in the "Who Cares" file.
      Even the dog looks bored.

To the unchill dude above, the Guelph Park sign is still in its place in the park.

Really who is at the helm? Guelph Park has been punk'd & this will go down as the stupidest thing to happen besides Rob Ford

A bit of harmless fun in "no fun city" and some people still find something to bitch about. Some real grumps around this place I tell ya.

Guelph Park is essentially named after one of England's worst and most idiotic kings. Great change that reflects the community instead of dead royalty.

I say awesome & I hope nobody steals it! Great sign, and to all you naysayers, WTF? it is fun and cool and light hearted, we need more of that in the world.

So now we have 2 names for one park. As they were unveiling the sign there were 6 drunks in the park and another guy urinating. This sign sends the wrong message. Couldn't the Parks Board think of something more constructive like a badly needed offleash dog park or maybe getting our outdoor pool back. Have Parks Board staff nothing better to do than put up silly signs and poodles on a pole?

There's an off-leash area on the other side of the school adjacent to Dude Chilling Park. There's a soccer field-plus sized off-leash area at China Creek North Park another half-dozen blocks to the east.
