Homeland Security hypocrisy: admitted crack smoker Rob Ford allowed across border into U.S.

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Scores of Canadians have been prohibited from the United States after being caught smoking marijuana.

Others have been banned entry into America because a dog merely smelled pot in their clothes.

Others made the mistake of admitting to a border guard to puffing weed in the past.

Then there are those Canadians who are forbidden from visiting Seattle or Portland because they were convicted of some minor offence more than 40 years ago.

In some cases, these transgressions would not even be considered crimes in the United States today.

People caught up in the Homeland Security/National Security Agency dragnet can't even take a flight to other countries with a stop in the United States.

Otherwise, they could be hauled off to jail.

But when you're a buffoonish mayor of Toronto, you face no such restrictions.

He can admit that he smoked crack cocaine.

He can be the subject of a devastating new book chronicling how out of control he's been since his father's death in 2006.

Yet Rob Ford is still being welcomed into the United States.

He's in Los Angeles in time for the Oscars and for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's show.

If George Orwell were alive today, he might suggest how this episode shows that some crack smokers are more equal than others.

And Rob Ford should stay in the U.S., one less idiot in Canada.

He's good for business. The media and entertainment industry gobble him up. The sponsors love this guy and Kimmel will get a big, fat bonus for serving him up on a silver platter. But Ford is going to have to deliver because his 15 minutes are nearly up. You can be sure that booze will be involved.

rob dodge: Charlie was talking about admission to the US, not admission to Canada. You did read the article, right?

It's not just Rob Ford, there's a former dimbulb provincial Premier who was arrested for DUI in the U.S. --and he got a big promotion to London!

Rob Dodge - we are not talking about letting folks into Canada - everybody knows we are the land of welcome cheques to KGB and PRC spies and the corrupt family of Yemeni dictators and the ruler of Sarawak, but that's Canada not sweating the small stuff. The US however is totally hypocritical with its no fly lists etc etc, yet a law breaking buffoon like RoFo zooms in. This must be what they mean when they call this the greatest democracy in the world.
