If you're interested in helping to address homophobia, transphobia, bullying, and discrimination in schools, there's something you can do to help out as the year draws to a close.

Out in Schools is a program run by Out on Screen (the folks who bring us the annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival) that offers classroom presentations on gender diversity and sexual orientation with film screenings and group discussions.

Quite impressively, they've reached over 60,000 students in B.C.'s 37 school districts since 2004. They expanded beyond the Lower Mainland to reach students across the province, including places like Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii. Future plans include visiting the Okanagan, Shuswap, and Revelstoke regions.

Their annual year-end fundraiser, Making Hallways Bright, is now underway, as only 10 percent of their funding comes from government grants. Until December 31, all donations to the organization will be matched by Scotiabank (to a maximum of $5,000). Out on Screen is hoping to raise $10,000.

For the person who has everything this gift-giving season, you might want to consider making a donation in their name.

You can make donations online, or in person at the Marine and McGowan Scotiabank (1500 Marine Drive, North Vancouver).

They've even made a little festive fundraising video for your viewing pleasure.
