New teaser for A&E's Damien could be an omen of scary shit to come

Yesterday I posted my list of the Top 5 best (and worst) horror flicks of 2015, and that got me thinkin' about some of the best horror flicks I've ever seen.

Which brings me to The Omen.

Forty years ago director Richard Donner was shooting that antichrist epic, and in June of '76 it was released, scaring the living crap out of me and a whole bunch of other peeps.

A slew of sequels followed--including the Vancouver-shot Omen IV: The Awakening, which I covered for Fangoria back in 1990--but none came close to matching the original as far as truly effective fearmongering goes.

The attacking dogs in the cemetery, the priest skewered by a lightning rod, David Warner decapitated by a sheet of glass.

      Billy Whitelaw.

There was just so much to like about that movie, including that shocking scene during a kids' birthday party where a nanny proclaims: "Look at me Damien! It's all for you!" before hanging herself off a building and crashing through a window.

Apparently that "It's all for you!" declaration also made an impression on the folks behind the new TV series Damien, because they referenced it in a teaser video released today. The A&E project, set to air in 2016, continues the story of The Omen, with British actor Bradley James portraying the now 30-year-old Damien Thorn. If you ask me, he's a little too hunky to be an effective antichrist, but the devil works in mysterious ways, I suppose.

      Anyway, here's the clip.
