Video: Martin Short gets serious on Rob Ford

In a sitdown interview with The National, Canadian comedian Martin Short had some serious thoughts about Toronto mayor Rob Ford and his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Pulling no punches, Short said, "I don't think Rob Ford is remotely good for the country."

He noted that London, England's mayor, Boris Johnson, has previously appeared on Late Show With David Letterman, "and he really made a great representation of the city, he represented the city with a great elegance."

Asked whether he thought Ford was embarrassing to Toronto, Short said, "I think if he really loved Toronto he would have resigned....To hang in there because you love Toronto is a little more narcissistic than he claims."

For a more humourous take on Ford, check out this interview Short did with Craig Ferguson in November 2013.

I believe that Kimmel was the very last minute of Ford's 15 minutes of fame. Eventually Letterman ended Dick Assman's undeserved celebrity with a bouquet of roses and essentially Kimmel did the same thing when he brought up every embarrassing photo and video of Ford before offering him advice on getting help.

      Good stuff.

I've always loved Martin Short as an actor and human, always will I suppose. I've always found him amusing in just about everything he does. Not incredibly hilarious or unbelievably funny, but consistently amusing. And now my kids are indirectly enamoured with him as well via the animated show, Cat in the Hat.

is a public disgrace to Canada. I cannot believe he has been given as much credibility as he has been t date. I am appalled and reconsidering myself as a Canadian. Might be time to relocate. Damn good that Mr. Sort called him on his douchery. If we have come to the place where addicts are in power here, we might as well grab out next leader form the local bus shelter. Disturbing. Disgusting and deeply embarrassing.

Martin nailed it right on the money. lf Rob Ford truly loved Toronto, he would of stepped down. Dealt with his issues at hand and come back swinging. lnstead he has made Toronto, Canada and himself the laughing stock of the world. The silent ones who have suffered the most have been his wife and children. Doug, Randy, Robs mom, sister, Mr Flaherty and others. Shame, Shame on all of you for not having the guts and caring enough to say " Rob, you need help". Rob Ford it is all about you, you don`t give a rats ass about anything else. You sir will indeed "Reap What You Sew"

Martin Short is a big hypocrit. Probably half or even more than half of his comidian and actor friends are either coke sniffing, crack smoking, heroin injecting or weed toking. Where does he get the odasity to call out the mayor of Canada's greatest city when in fact, he is the one consorting with people who really do have drug problems. If he's going to call out Mayor Ford, then he should have the guts to call out all of his friends. His friends in Hollywood are truly the ones that children look up to, not Mayors and other politicians(at least the majority of kids that is). Shame on you Martin Short and the rest of you who have the same stupid mentality. In Hollywood, when an actor, actress or singer dies of an overdose they given tributes and praises and have achieved true Holleywood statue. But, when Rob Ford makes a mistake(one that I do not condone for that matter), he instead is ridiculed and condemned. He is attacked and constantly bullied by the media of Toronto, yet still you people see nothing wrong with this. Open your eyes, look beyond your local Toronto star reporter, look at the bigger picture. The actors, actresses and singers that our kids and ourselves admire are probably bigger drug addicts then anyone you know but still we support them. Why is that you ask? I'll tell you why, because they are good at what they do. So is Mayor Rob Ford. He has fulfilled the majority of his campaign promises and still the only thing the media and other ignorant folk seem to recognize is some blunders in his personal life. It is disgusting that we idolize certain people for doing a good job but not being a good role model and then throw stones at another person who is also doing a good job , but not so much so in his personal life. That is why I believe Martin Short and others who share the same opinion are hypocrites and should really think before they speak.

Rob Ford *is* a "Torontonion" - round, thin-skinned, odious.

But enough of picking on Rob Ford.

We need, as a society, to start picking on Doug Ford.

What is this guy's problem? He is continuing to prop up his grinning simpleton of a brother, who has taken to power like a duck takes to orange sauce.

Since Rob has at no time ever been considered the brains of the family - anatomically and ethically, he is closer to a cyst - one has to wonder what Doug is getting out of this.
