Photographers will be converging on Whistler this week for a chance to win $10,000.

That's the first-prize purse in the 10th annual Arc'teryx Deep Winter Photo Challenge.

Competitors have 72 hours to create a montage showing athletes involved in a variety of activities. Their slides will be presented on Saturday (January 9) in front of a live audience at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Tickets are $25.

“Deep Winter is a great opportunity to support and showcase the amazing photographic talent in the snowsports community at large, while at the same time exposing the world-class terrain that Whistler Blackcomb has to offer," Arc'teryx marketing event supervisor Justin Sweeny said in a news release. "It’s a win win!”

This year's event has attracted previous winners Ashley Barker, Zoya Lynch, and Russell Dalby. All participants will have to shoot part of the slideshow from backcountry that can only be accessed via lifts.

After the judges determine the King or Queen of Storms, one image from each photographer will go online at Whistlerblackcomb.com/deepwinter. There, the public can vote over a 72-hour period for a people's choice award.

Anyone who votes online will have a chance to win a prize package. And the winner of the people's choice award will receive a trip for two with Whistler Heli Skiing and a $1,000 cash prize.
