TED2014 conference to be live streamed for free in Vancouver

      So you didn't get an invitation to pay US$7,500 and attend Vancouver's first TED conference. Good news: you can watch the TED2014 proceedings for free in Vancouver.

      Not from the comfort of your own couch, mind you, but at select locations in the region. For the first time, TED will be live streamed free to the public in its host city.

      According to a City of Vancouver news release, the following locations will be showing the video feed from March 17 to 21, during the day:

      • Grouse Mountain,  6400 Nancy Greene Way, North Vancouver

      TED2014 speakers include plasma physicist Michel Laberge, peace activist Zak Ebrahim, musician Amanda Palmer, and futurist Ray Kurzweil.

      It's worth noting that attendees of TEDActive 2014 in Whistler are paying US$3,750 for an experience that centres on the TED2014 video feed "plus music, comedy, dance, short talks, video and other surprises".

      A participatory version of TED, the independently organized BIL 2014 conference, will take place on March 22 and 23 in downtown Vancouver.
