CBC cancels TV series Arctic Air and Cracked

Alas, two TV series are the latest casualties of government budget cuts at the CBC, according to reports.

The adventure-drama series Arctic Air about a Yellowknife-based airline, starring Adam Beach and Pascale Hutton, will not be renewed after season three for a fourth season. It was shot in B.C. and the Northwest Territories.

Meanwhile, Cracked, a cop series about a Canadian police department's Psych Crimes Unit starring David Sutcliffe will end with its second season.

Previous cancellations by the national broadcaster include The Ron James Show, due to low ratings, and George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, as Stroumboulopoulos was named as a new anchor at Hockey Night in Canada.

Don't know about Cracked, but Arctic Air was an awful show.

It's unfortunate but not unexpected that Arctic Air got canned. While not the best show on TV, the actors, producers, writers and the rest of the production crew were passionate and proud of their efforts.

From CBC Revenue Group, January 7, 2014---

"On an average week, Arctic Air reached over 1.6 million Canadians [in 2013]"

From BBM Canada, ratings for week of Sept. 30/13--

"Murdoch Mysteries - 1.393 million viewers"

Murdoch survives, and is as we all have been informed, the PM's favourite show.

Artic air was an interesting study of CBC writers trying to strick the balance of changing relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal canadians. To compare it with Beachcombers is appropiate, however with People like Wab Kinew and Joseph Boyden and events Like Idle No More the TRC we have moved beyond the outdated dramatic themes presented in Artic air. It would be nice to get some dramatic contentent that is current.

The reason why Cracked failed is because CBC hired folks who did not have experience producing a show that is unique and and gritty and very modern and respective to the young adults of Canada. I bet you Cracked was produced by out of touch staff ranging from 50 to 70 years old. WHAT DO THEY KNOW ABOUT CREATING COOL TV SHOWS FOR US? When CBC gives free money out to these producers, there is no reason to create great shows. In the USA TV land, nothing is free, it's hard work and one has to show a profit. THE GOV OF CANADA MUST STOP GIVING OUT MONEY TO CBC.

Arctic Air was an awesome show, and I cannot believe that it was cancelled. My wife and I loved the drama, the scenery, and the flying adventures. It's a real shame that it was cancelled because it's one of the best shows on TV. Very top rated show with gifted actors and it should not have been cancelled at all. But not surprising, after all, any great show usually does get cancelled and I should just quit watching tv altogether because tv networks keep canceling anything that is good to watch. Very sad indeed!!!!! CBC needs to rethink their decision and allow the show to continue.

I am a TV writer from NYC, and can't believe someone wrote a bad concept like Cracked. And why call it Cracked, bad name. And every year great TV shows are made in Hollywood. Cracked does not come close to these. Cracked is the worst Canadian TV show ever.

Don't know why would CBC give my money to make a TV show as awful and silly and boring as cracked.

This is very disturbing. CBC give money out without thinking. And keep adding to the BAD TV COMING OUT OF TORONTO AND CANADA.
