Parisotto Capri is a high-end bikini and cover-up collection by local designer Lauren Parisotto.

Growing up in Palm Springs inspired Parisotto to create a fashionable line of swimwear for sophisticated women in their 40s and 50s who enjoy the sun.

Parisotto will be unveiled at The Show, presented by Tamoda Apparel, on April 24 at the River Rock Casino. Thirty-six other lines by Kwantlen Polytechnic University fashion students will also be showcased. See kpu.ca/theshow2014 for event details.

Kimberley Ronning: Describe your collection to us.

Lauren Parisotto: Parisotto Capri is a contemporary bikini and cover-up collection focused on celebrating the accomplishments of women, and the self-assurance that’s achieved through a lifestyle that emphasizes health and personal growth. Parisotto delivers styles that promote the physique of a woman invested in revival. Runway-worthy detailing and high quality fabrics provide clients with a luxurious, sexy ensemble for vacationing.

I took the line in a contemporary direction, combining a clean aesthetic while keeping it sophisticated. It’s unique, but is also a nod toward current trends. In addition to an essential line of bikinis that gives clients the fit and support they desire, Parisotto delivers lavish cover-up styles with include plunging necklines and cut-out details. These touches add an elegance that completes clients’ holiday wardrobes.

KR: Where do you get your inspiration?

LP: I fell in love with fashion the moment I discovered how the right outfit can make a woman feel empowered and confident. My experience working as a sales associate in a high-end boutique has made me appreciate the use of luxurious fabrics to create well-manufactured garments that have a perfect fit.

With Palm Springs as a second home, my family and our friends introduced me to the leisurely lifestyle of that community. Enjoying and embracing the "luxury resort" atmosphere is what really formed my interest in vacation wear. My final collection, Parisotto, combines my love of swimwear with the desire to cater to and work with confident, sophisticated women.

KR: If your collection had a soundtrack, what song would it be?

LP: The song that fits my line would have to come from my favourite movies: Vicky Christina Barcelona and Eat Pray Love. Both films are about self-discovery; both soundtracks have exotic-sounding music.

KR: What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe?

LP: My Givenchy boots. Suede, over-the-knee with a wood heel—they’re amazing. They were given to me from an old boss and mentor, so they also have a little sentimental nostalgia.

KR: What are you doing after graduation?

LP: After a semester of studying abroad in London, I fell in love with the city and hope to move there this summer.

KR: Summer location: Beach or lake?

LP: Definitely the beach. Parisotto designs are all about enjoying a luxurious resort’s location.
