Reduced SkyTrain service at Main Street-Science World Station for six months

Regular Expo and Millenium line trains will skip Main Street-Science World Station, starting Sunday (March 30).

For about six months, SkyTrain riders will have to use a special two-car train, which TransLink is calling the Train2Main, to access the rapid-transit system's oldest station.

TransLink says the change is necessary to keep the station open during construction. The upgrades are expected to be complete in early 2015.

      From the TransLink news release:

Train2Main will operate for approximately six months between Waterfront and Commercial-Broadway stations stopping at all stations in between, including Main Street-Science World Station. Regular four and six-car trains on the Expo and Millennium Line will operate as normal during this time except they will not stop at Main Street-Science World Station. Train2Main will run every 10 to 12 minutes; passengers that take the Train2Main should plan for up to 10 minutes of extra travel time.

Riders will be able to transfer to and from the Train2Main at Commercial-Broadway and downtown stations.

What is the real story here? Could it be that the cement station and guideway have deteriorated at a far greater pace than previously thought?

Could it be that the SkyTrain infrastructure has passed its "best before" date?
