It's great to be alive when there's a deluxe Drive-By Truckers box set coming out

Ever since I first heard Southern Rock Opera back in 2002 I've been crazy about the Drive-By Truckers, and not just because their albums consistently provide the finest, most moving guitar-rock tunes imaginable.

They're also a killer band live. I've seen them play the Biltmore, the Commodore, the Vogue-even Dick's on Dicks back in the Isbell days--and they've always blown me away.

If you're also a hardcore DBTs fan, you'll be psyched to know that Universal Music is releasing a deluxe, limited-edition version of the group's live album, It's Great To Be Alive!, this Friday (January 15).

The package includes five vinyl LPs containing 36 songs the band recorded during a three-night run at the Filmore in San Francisco last year. The tunes include such DBT gems as "Primer Coat", "The Righteous Path", "A Ghost to Most", "Birthday Boy", "Uncle Frank", "Zip City", and "Made Up English Oceans".

The music also comes on three CDs, for twits who don't have turntables.

The set includes a 16-page booklet with liner notes by Patterson Hood, and four mini concert posters by my fave concert-poster guy, Wes Freed.

At a price of only 70 bucks or so, it's a helluva deal. Only 2500 copies are available worldwide, so I suggest you order yourself one right now.
