Two private postsecondary schools in Vancouver have made a list of the top video-game design programs in the U.S. and Canada.

The Art Institute of Vancouver placed eighth and Vancouver Film School ranked 19th on the Princeton Review's 2014 list of the top undergraduate schools in this field.

Perhaps surprisingly, Ai Vancouver scored better than the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University in the rankings. Ai Vancouver and VFS were the only Canadian schools to make the list.

According to the Princeton Review, the top three undergrad programs are found at the University of Southern California, University of Utah, and DigiPen Institute of Technology.

The top ranked graduate schools are at the University of Southern California, University of Central Florida, and Southern Methodist University.

Administrators at 150 institutions were surveyed in order to compile the rankings.

Ai Vancouver offers a bachelor of science degree in game programming, as well as diplomas in game art and design, and visual and game programming.

VFS has diploma programs in game design, and programming for web and mobile games.
