Vancouver's best-known raw vegan eatery has finally set a date for the launch of its new and bigger location in the Downtown Eastside.

Today (April 1), Gorilla Food announced it will open at 477 Powell Street on April 5.

As of today, Gorilla Food's 101-436 Richards Street location in downtown Vancouver is temporarily closed.

In an e-newsletter, owner and chef Aaron Ash wrote:

You will love the new Powell St. space!! It's just on the other side of Main st. through Gastown, on the corner, across the street from Oppenheimer Park. There is an amazing vision!

I really wish we could stay open at Richards St. all the way through for you, but it seems the signs have been directing to a total rebirth. I'm super excited, and a bit nervous, and anxious, and super grateful!!

In 2012, Arsenal Pulp Press published Gorilla Food, Ash's cookbook.

The word "gentrification" gets tossed around an awful lot these days...
