West Vancouver police reviewing video showing angry cop cutting off longboarders

This video was posted to YouTube on Sunday (April 13) and already has more than 90,000 views.

It shows "fricken'" longboarders being forced to take spills after a police SUV pulls into the middle of the road and stops. The cop then tells the longboarders, who criticize his actions, that he's "sick and tired" of dealing with them.

Today (April 14), the West Vancouver Police Department issued a statement on the matter:

A review is being undertaken into a videotaped interaction between a West Vancouver Police Patrol Officer and longboarders.

West Vancouver Police are aware of concerns being expressed via social media regarding the video taped interaction between a WVPD officer and Long boarders on Finch Hill Rd in West Vancouver last week.

The interaction occurred Wednesday afternoon, April 09, 2014.

The interaction is now under an internal review to determine whether all WVPD Policies and Guidelines were properly followed and whether any further action is warranted in connection with this occurrence.

Subject to completion of that review, comment regarding the incident itself, or social media reaction to the incident will necessarily be limited.

Oh, those longboarders and their helmet cams.

SO, the fun thing about being a cop is you can do this to citizens and, maybe, after an investigation that only sometimes occurs, get a 'punishment' like suspension for two weeks with pay.
If, hypothetically, a citizen swerved into a lane and stopped in front of police on bikes because "they're sick of dealing with them" that citizen would have a bucket full of fun charges like reckless endangerment, assault causing bodily harm, and so on. I get really frustrated with this dissonance and lack of accountability. Yet another example...

Scary to imagine how this cop behaves when he's not on camera!

I'm not a cop, I could never handle the aggravation of trying to save the lives of ingrates. If it was me, I would have let these longboarders fulfil their Darwinian destiny and merge themselves with a tree or vehicle at an intersection.

But cops don't do that. They try to regulate stupid behaviour for the general good. Fortunately, they don't expect any thanks for it.

"I'm sick and tired of you blah blah blah..."

Heard it, been there, running out of answers...how to deal with dickhead cops who indulge in juvenile bullshit like this. Sure, this "review" will bear great results!

No one is arguing against the police officer's ability to enforce a bylaw and hand out a ticket. The argument is against the reckless decision to not only drive into the oncoming lane, but do so at the last moment, stop there, and intentionally put the safety - perhaps, lives - of several people in jeopardy. We expect police to enforce the law, not be above it. To serve and protect; he may have fulfilled the "serve" portion, but he most certainly neglected the "protect" portion.

so let me get this right, long boarders take over roads illegally and the police is in the wrong?????? What is going on with society. Its bad enough how some of the bike riders behave now we have these damn kids with long boards. Was a very good chance to show exactly how dangerous those long boarders are. The road is for CARS!

It shows why the longboards are illegal, they lack control. If the cop had done this to cyclists they would have been able to stop (aggressively) without issue. The cop was doing the correct thing stopping them they way he did, he forced people who don't obey the law to stop.
Why is this even an issue?
