Canada's first national air carrier, Trans Canada Air Lines, was born on April 10, 1937.

It was promoted by the powerhouse transport minister, C.D. Howe, who was onboard during its debut cross-country flight less than four months later.

Trans Canada flew under that name until it was renamed Air Canada in 1965.

Today, one of the retro-looking Trans Canada planes landed at Vancouver International Airport.

It looked pretty small compared to the jumbo jets that we're used to seeing in the 21st century.
