Painters take note: the RBC Canadian Painting Competition is now open and accepting submissions. One winner from all of Canada will receive $25,000, and the two honourable mentions will receive $15,000 each.

The prize is awarded to a promising Canadian artist to help kick-start their career with both recognition and funding. The winners are chosen by a panel of three jury members, one each for Eastern, Central, and Western Canada.

The award, started in 1999, has been given to two Vancouver artists in the past: Colleen Heslin and Rebecca Brewer. Both artists received a boost to their career because of it, and Brewer is currently presenting her first solo exhibition, “The Written Face”, at the Catriona Jeffries Gallery until May 3.

Both artists also had work exhibited as part of the Canadian Art Federation’s Gallery Hop on April 12 in Vancouver.

The deadline for submissions is May 6 at 5 p.m. EDT. More information can be found here.
