Photos: Vancouver's 420 gathering a buyer's bonanza

What can you buy at Vancouver's annual 420 marijuana gathering? A better question might be, what can't you get?

At least 200 boothed vendors set up shop at the Vancouver Art Gallery on April 20 to deal treats and trinkets to the over 25,000 attendees who showed up during the course of the day.

After 12 hours on site, I'm pretty sure I saw it all: small and large bags of dozens of strains of weed, pre-rolled joints, shatter, oil, wax, butter, hash, lollipops, popcorn, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, and candy.

A quick note on the economics of weed: in previous years, the general price of a pre-rolled joint was $5, three for $10, and an ounce for around $200. This year, the lowest prices I saw were five joints for $10 and $140 for an ounce of kush. This is indicative of an excess of product in the region, which means consumers can get a heck of a deal if they talk to the right people.

On site, you could also purchase pipes, bongs, oil rigs, shatter containers, grinders, lighters, torches, artwork, toques, jewellery, T-shirts, buttons, stickers, and even a board game featuring those loveable rascals from the Trailer Park Boys.

Here's a small sample of photos I grabbed the day of the event.

Marijuana is probably the biggest selling mind altering drug in the world, after alcohol and cigarettes. Sales are perhaps 500 billion dollars a year. Humanity's choice.... either join hands in sobriety and create a paradise on earth, or continue spending trillions of dollars a year altering brain chemistry with drugs to escape the hell we're jointly creating. The future is up to us... either a happy planet or a prison planet where everyone is always jacked up on drugs, and the drug cartels run the planet.

Stategis. Do you think even one person is going to stop enjoying recreational drugs reading your statement?
That's great that you abstain from all forms of mental enjoyment. Do you eat chocolate or drink coffee/tea? Then you consume drugs that alter you mental state.
Studies in France have shown that people that abstain from drugs completely die early. Your life span will be about as long as a chronic alcoholic. Why? Stress.
