      CONCERTS

      Variety—the Children's Charity's Show of Hearts telethon features music by Jim Byrnes, Chilliwack, Colleen Rennison, Shari Ulrich, Barney Bentall, and Dustin Bentall. Held at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.

      The Giggle Dam Band, Intoxicated By Nature, Pop Junkies, Worms Hate Rain, Trailer Park Playboys, Ray Roper Project, the Vindicators, Bang!, Heavy Mellow with Steven Jack, and Metropolis perform at a benefit concert for Variety–the Children's Charity. Held at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

      Celebrate Black History Month with the jazz stylings of vocalist Glenda Rae, guitarist Brett Wade, and pianist Miles Black. Held at the Northwood United Church.

      Coastal Jazz & Blues Society presents a Valentine's Day dinner and jazz show featuring Canadian vocalists Karin Plato and Laura Crema. Held at Frankie's.

       

      BENEFITS

      Latin-inspired band Mazacote performs at a fundraising concert for Canadian Blood Services. Held at Studio Records.

       

      ET CETERA

      The Chinese New Year Parade runs from 11 am to around 1:30 pm, starting at the Millennium Gate on Pender Street before moving east up Pender Street, then south along Gore Avenue before coming back west along Keefer Street to Carrall Street.

      The final day of Lunarfest takes place on the plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery from noon until 6 pm. Highlights include the Chin Fei Feng Marionette Theatre Troupe performances at 1:45 and 5:30 pm.

      Kitty Nights Burlesque presents a tribute to Prince starring Seattle burlesque artist Iva Handfull, alongside Frankie Faux, Burgundy Brixx, Audrey Hipturn, Voracious V, Rebel Valentine, and Jenny Magenta. Held at the Biltmore Cabaret.

       

      FOOD AND DRINK

      Dogwood Brewing hosts Organic Love, an evening of artisan desserts individually paired with a selection of beers.

       

      FORUMS

      At the Art of Loving, you can enjoy two hours of playful intimacy with your partner and reacquaint yourself with the fun of necking.

       

      ARTS ET CETERA

      Visit Rhonda Weppler, Richmond's first artist-in-residence, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the processes involved in her creative work. Held at Branscombe House.

       

      COMEDY

      A singles-oriented Valentine's Day party features Morris Bartlett, Suzy Rawsome, Sande Reese, Seth Little, Yanick Ethier, Flash Lefox, Chris Griffen, and Sarah Stupar. Held at LanaLou's.

       

      DANCE

      An adults-only evening features a salsa-dance workshop and a complimentary Cuban-inspired tapas buffet at Place des Arts.

       

      MUSIC

      Organist Michael Dirk plays music by J.S. Bach, Brahms, Sweelinck, Schumann, Guilment, and Rathgerber. Held at Ryerson United Church.

      The Vancouver Cantata Singers  perform Johannes Brahms's Liebeslieder Waltzer, as well as works by John Greer and John Corigliano. Held at the Orpheum Theatre.

      The Vancouver Recital Society presents Russian-German pianist Igor Levit in a program of works by Bach, Schubert, Beethoven, and Prokofiev. Held at the Vancouver Playhouse.

      The Second Sunday Concert Series presents Cordei Duo in a concert celebrating Valentine's Day. Held at the Roedde House Museum.

       

      THEATRE

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents Pride & Prejudice at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      Ron Reed directs the final night of provocative family drama Common Grace. Held at the Pacific Theatre.

       

      MOVIES

      The Vancity Theatre screens Ninotchka, Ernst Lubitsch's 1939 film starring Greta Garbo.

      Vancouver film scholar Michael van den Bos presents Reel Romance, a Valentine to motion-picture passions. Held at the Vancity Theatre.
