With the rise in popularity of farm-to-table restaurants and neighbourhood farmers markets, the desire to consume fresh produce is stronger than ever. This summer, Vancouverites will have another way to take a bite from the local bounty—by way of food cart.

The FarmCity Fresh Cart is expected to launch in June. Co-owned by food truck-turned-restaurant Re-Up BBQ (810 Quayside Drive, New Westminster) and Farm City Co-Op—a community of small-scale urban farmers—the FarmCity Fresh Cart will sell fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as edible products by small local businesses.

“It’s a selection of the very best fresh produce you would find at the farmers’ market, but available on a regular basis in familiar places so people can make shopping at the Cart part of their regular routine, whether on their lunch break or during the commute home from work,” Lindsay Kaisaris, co-owner of Re-Up BBQ, stated in a news release.

The cart is part of the City of Vancouver’s street food program and will primarily be located at Robson Square (800 block of Robson Street). Similar to other street-food vendors, the FarmCity Fresh Cart will occasionally pop up at various events and festivals over the summer.

In addition to raw fruits and vegetables, Vancouverites can expect to find bacon and cured meats by Re-Up BBQ, preserves and pickles, pre-made salads, ice-cream, and beverages. Urban farmers-for-hire Victory Gardens will also be on hand, selling seeds and plants.

The owners of FarmCity Fresh Cart are still looking for potential investors. For details on how to help, visit the Farm City Co-Op website.
