Modern day banjo greats Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn will perform at UBC’s Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent Road) on Saturday (May 10) at 8 p.m.

The husband and wife musicians are two of America’s finest banjo players and have been touring as a duo, presenting music developed together and featuring an eclectic mix of bluegrass, traditional, and original songs.

Fleck has performed at the Chan Centre on multiple occasions, last appearing with Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer in 2009. Known as an innovator and cross-genre collaborator, Fleck has won more than a dozen Grammy awards for his recordings.

Washburn is a celebrated singer, songwriter, and clawhammer banjo player. Her most recent album, City of Refuge, showcases her distinctive sound—a blend of Appalachia and Chinese cultural influences.

Tickets to Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn start at $36 and can be purchased online, by phone at 604-822-2697, and at the Chan Centre box office.
