Kanye West ends weeks of erratic behaviour with a seemingly sincere apology

For all Kanye West’s many faults, the ability to self-reflect is not one of them.

As has been documented, here and every other media in North America, the past weeks have been busy ones for Yeezy. At a time when he has a new album—The Life of Pablo—he’s been getting the kind of attention normally reserved for Hollywood sex-scandals, celebrity deaths, and Sarah Palin sightings.

Almost of all of it has been negative, which is to be expected when you call Taylor Swift a bitch, pitch a Saturday Night Live hissy-fit in front of Lorne Michaels, and suggest fellow rappers (hi, Wiz Khalifa) have shacked up with glorified strippers (yo, Amber Rose).

And quite frankly, it’s all making West look like world-class dink.

But, as the Straight has noted before, Kanye has a major problem accepting the fact that he’s an asshole. Even as he’s getting the kind of publicity for The Life of Pablo that no amount of advertising can buy, the rapper has some desperate need to be liked.

And so it’s no surprise that, late last night, after doing his best to be a fly in the ointment for all of 2016, West took to Twitter with his cap in hand.

Just when you’ve written him off as the worst person this side of Donald Trump, he follows up his various erratic outbursts with a moment of self-reflection, that leading to what seems like a heartfelt apology. And an admission his ego is often out of control.

From the number of likes and retweets, it’s obvious that he’s been forgiven. At least until the next outburst, which will probably be six minutes from now.
