Vancouver nightlife loses Ginger 62 and Ceili's Modern Irish Pub downtown

A popular Vancouver nightlife establishment announced its closure today (May 14). Ceili’s Modern Irish Pub (670 Smithe Street) shuttered its downtown restaurant after operating just off the Granville Street entertainment district for seven years.

Ceili’s was a popular spot for enjoying pub food and drinks, listening to live music, dancing, and watching sports games. The three-storey building also attracted large crowds on Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, and during CelticFest Vancouver festivities.

The owners, who operate three other locations across the Lower Mainland and four restaurants in Calgary, made the announcement by posting a message to the Ceili’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Another Granville Street fixture is also facing the chopping block.

Ginger 62 (1219 Granville Street) will close after Monday (May 19). After 14 years, the nightclub is under new ownership and it will close following a three-day party over the long weekend.

The nightlife spot below the Ramada Inn & Suites was known for its upscale interiors, DJ’d electronic music, and live performances. The room also hosted events such as burlesque shows and, recently, the France Bubbly Party during the Vancouver International Wine Festival.

Lets open up to some more interesting Granville spots! No one will miss these two spots! Addressing the article specifically; what weirdo enjoys "pub food" or "upscale interiors".

Bring on some late night, no-cover non-chain bars!

Ceilis hasnt been popular for years. If it was,it would still be open or someone would have bought it.

Make some room for some more original bars. These cookie-cutter places only make us all seem more boring. Tourists don't come here for fake Irish bars.

Why so many bars? Granville street needs more video arcades and 25 cent peep shows.

Ginger62 - built on the sordid memories of the Austin Hotel beer parlour the space housed for many years. You can still smell the deprivation.

Sounds like some primo spots for some Cac Clubs. Lighten up, V-Town - it's a chill place to pound some coldies while scopin' some hotties. Check out all their big screens for all the games and some ultimate fighting. Not down with that? Haters gonna hate, amirite? YOLO.

Ceili's won't be missed.I remember sitting at the bar many years ago when it first opened, taking the place of Sky-Bar,I ordered a pint of Harp and it was somewhere around $8 bucks for a twelve ounce pour......this was a decade ago.Good riddance.
