Boca del Lupo’s Micro Performance Series and the Richmond Arts Centre present A Taste of Empire at the Granville Island Public Market courtyard (1689 Johnson Street) from May 22 to 25 at 8 p.m.

A Taste of Empire is a one-person show starring Jovanni Sy, who takes audiences on an entertaining and thought-provoking trip through history while cooking a traditional Filipino dish in real time. Sy weaves stories of conquest, imperialistic desires, and colonialism through the rise and fall of Rellenong Bangus.

Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served as audience members are seated, and a tasting plate of Sy’s dish will be served at the conclusion of the piece.

Sy is a writer and performer as well as the artistic director of Richmond’s Gateway Theatre.

Tickets to A Taste of Empire are $30 and can be purchased online in advance.
