Andrew Garfield plays trans woman in Arcade Fire's "We Exist"
While movie-going audiences are busy catching Andrew Garfield portraying Spider-Man in the latest web-slinger installment, music fans are busy seeing Garfield show off a very different acting role.
Montreal-based Arcade Fire recruited Garfield to portray a trans character in their latest video for the Reflektor single, "We Exist".
The smalltown character appears to be struggling with gender identity, changing from male to female, and experiencing harassment as a result. In a rather clichéd journey, the character finds escape through music, even joining Arcade Fire on stage.
Here's the video for your viewing pleasure:
Powerful and riveting? Stereotypical and nothing new? Supportive and encouraging of trans issues? What do you think?
