The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors Karen Flamenco’s Swan Lake

Karen Flamenco’s Swan Lake opens at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Dunsmuir Street) on May 31 and runs until June 1.

Karen Flamenco Dance Academy and Company presents a flamenco-inspired interpretation of the ballet classic Swan Lake. Since 2008, artistic director and founder Karen Pitkethly has merged her love of flamenco and ballet in productions such as Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, and Romeo and Juliet.

This spring, audiences will enter into a world of drumming rhythms, soulful singing, clicking castanets, and perfectly timed clapping, ruffles, swirling skirts, fans and fringe. The story of Swan Lake is heightened by the deeply passionate dance of Andalucía.
