Justin Trudeau cuddles with cute panda cubs at Toronto Zoo
The names of the first giant panda cubs born in Canada were unveiled this morning at the Toronto Zoo: Jia Panpan (“Canadian Hope”) and his sister, Jia Yueyue (“Canadian Joy”).
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among a handful of special guests at the naming ceremony, which was also attended by Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory.
The zoo established a naming committee that compiled an initial list of potential names for the panda cubs. A campaign was launched in February to encourage the public to vote for their favourites from the list.
Er Shun, the Toronto Zoo’s female giant panda, gave birth to the panda cubs last October.
