Oliver Stone plans movie about whistle blower Edward Snowden

The film director who brought Richard Nixon and the assassination of John F. Kennedy to the big screen is now setting his sights on a movie about Edward Snowden.

Oliver Stone is planning an adaptation of The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man by Guardian journalist Luke Harding.

Naturally, the story broke in Harding's publication.

According to the Guardian article, it will be produced by Stone's business partner, Moritz Borman.

Snowden is in exile in Russia after releasing documents to former Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald detailing how the National Security Agency was conducting meta-analysis of phone and Internet communications around the world.

The news comes a few days after NBC broadcast a feature-length interview with Snowden.

Meanwhile, a new NBC poll shows that more Americans disagree than agree with Snowden's decision to release details about the National Security Agency's surveillance programs.

Only 13 percent said they were "very positive" or "somewhat positive" whereas 27 percent were "somewhat negative" or "very negative".

Another 60 percent were either neutral, unsure, or didn't know Snowden's name.

However among people 18 to 34 years old, there was greater support for Snowden, with 32 percent approving of his action with only 20 percent opposed.
