Vancouver's first TED conference came and went in March, but the city will host another event under the TED umbrella before the year is over.

On October 18, the fifth TEDxVancouver conference will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The theme of TEDxVancouver 2014 is "Tilt".

“Something remarkable happens when you face your fears and test your limits, whether it’s leaping from an airplane at ten thousand feet or that last deep inhale before taking the stage. TILT transpires the moment you make the move. You plunge away from what is comfortable to conquer barriers, real and imagined. This year’s event experience is designed to amplify perspective shifts that occur when we choose to tilt,” Jordan Kallman, president of TEDxVancouver, said in a news release issued today (June 3).

“TEDxVancouver 2014 is about inspiring different outcomes. Above and beyond an incredible line up of speakers, we are planning on maximizing the social interaction and networking experience for attendees. Through unique breakout areas and a few surprises that will be revealed the day of the event, attendees will have the chance to participate in a deeper level of community engagement.”

Organizers plan to release the speaker lineup and ticket information for TEDxVancouver 2014 in the "coming months".

TEDx conferences are community-organized events that have a licence from TED to use the TEDx brand.

TEDxVancouver 2012 at the Orpheum Theatre featured such speakers as marine biologist Kristin Westdal and gossip reporter Elaine Lui.
