Vancouver Fashion Week kicked off its 16th year last night (March 14) with an opening gala at the Chinese Cultural Centre (50 East Pender Street).

We attended the dazzling launch, where crowds of style-savvy Vancouverites were treated to an expansive showcase of wears from local and international designers alike. Consider it a preview of things to come: throughout the next week, more than 80 designers representing over 25 countries will present fall/winter collections for 2016.

Here are a handful of designs—some from as far as Brazil, Germany, and Japan and some from right at home—that struck our fancy at last night’s gala.
