The world will never forget the June 4, 1989 Chinese military assault on peaceful students protesting in Tiananmen Square.

Even though Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997, authorities still allow the annual demonstration marking this savage action by the government of China.

Today, tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents showed up for a candlelight vigil to mark the 25th anniversary of the end of the student uprising.

At the time of the crackdown, Deng Xiaoping was chairman of the Communist Party of China's Central Military Commission.
