Photos: Vancouver Mini Maker Faire 2014 unleashes robotic dog and other geekery

    1 of 18 2 of 18

Robots and Lego and crafts, oh my! The fourth annual Vancouver Mini Maker Faire took place at the PNE Forum this past weekend (June 7 and 8), showcasing everything from spun yarn to a robotic dog.

The two-day festival boasted workshops, speakers, demonstrations, and hours of wandering booth-to-booth to see, touch, try, build, and become a maker. Maker culture is a largely technology-based offshoot of do-it-yourself (DIY) culture, but encompasses anyone who uses, reuses, invents, hacks, builds, or creates using practical skills to make something innovative.

The Maker Faire was created as a space for makers to show their work and share their learning. Since its creation eight years ago, it has only grown in popularity, and Mini Maker Faires have sprouted up in Vancouver and other cities.

The maker movement is awesome. Creativity and innovation are core elements of the human experience.
