Councillor Geoff Meggs won’t recuse himself from public hearing on Concord Pacific project

On Monday (June 9), the Georgia Straight reported that the cochairs of the False Creek Residents Association had called for Vision Vancouver councillor Geoff Meggs to be disqualified from participating in a public hearing.

One of the cochairs, Fern Jeffries, claimed that Meggs had shown "bias" in a blog post and tweet related to a condo project by Concord Pacific that is the subject of the hearing.

Meggs emailed the Straight today (June 10) to say that he will attend tonight's hearing despite the controversy:

After reviewing the blog posting and obtaining legal advice, I am very confident I have not violated any council policies regarding public hearings and will be participating in the hearing beginning tonight.

Green councillor Adriane Carr told the Straight on Monday that she plans to raise the issue of recusal at the hearing.

It would be nice if the Straight published a story on how the actual vote went.

Just in case anyone is interested in follow up, Council did approve the Concord Towers along with a stern finger-wagging (LOL) that they hadn't built the long promised park yet.

Meggs and the Vision party are bed fellows with developers. With Meggs coming out in support of a developers violates the trust voters put in him and the Vision business party to make decisions on behalf of the PUBLIC - NOT developers. Meggs biased towards those that fund the his party and should now recuse himself from any vote concerning developers.
