Quebec hockey goaltender Charline Labonte comes out as lesbian
Canadian hockey goaltender Charline Labonte has publicly come out of the closet.
The 31-year-old Labonte, originally from Greenfield Park, Quebec, and now Montreal-based, was a member of Canada's gold-medal winning women's hockey team at the Sochi Winter Olympics. She wrote an article in Outsports published on June 11 in both English and French.
She talks about how Russia's antigay legislation made her feel afraid and conflicted, and left her with a "bitter taste".
She says she is now proud of who she is, and she has a girlfriend, Canadian Olympic speedskater Anastasia Bucsis.

So she's gay. Who cares? It's nobodies business but their own so why the need to make an announcement?
Now a REAL shocker would be Richard Simmons announcing he's straight :P

If it's not such a big deal and common knowledge, why is it such a struggle for them to come out? And why aren't more of them out?
