On April 8, 8 pm, Anoushka Shankar comes to the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent Road, UBC).

The Grammy-nominated sitarist and daughter of late musician Pandit Ravi Shankar will be performing works from ninth studio album Land of Gold, which is dedicated to the plight of refugees around the world.

Chan Centre comanaging director Joyce Hinton says that Shankar's "new collection of songs explore a gamut of emotions in reaction to the refugee crisis, and poignantly raise further awareness to this critical issue".

The Chan Centre will also be holding a conversation between Shankar and CBC Radio One's Sheryl MacKay (April 7, Pyatt Hall) and a pre-show talk with Dr. Renisa Mawani (April 8, Royal Bank Cinema).

Tickets for Anoushka Shankar start at $60 and are available online or by calling 604-822-2697.
