Paul McCartney freaks who snapped up tickets to his two shows in Vancouver may have to dip into their entertainment budgets one more time as Macca announced today that he'll release a new career-spanning compilation on June 10.

Pure McCartney will be released in 2-CD, 4-CD, 4-LP, and digital formats, all featuring versions of his greatest solo and Wings compositions. (Sorry, no Beatles tunes included.)

"Me and my team came up with the idea of putting together a collection of my recordings with nothing else in mind other than having something fun to listen to," says McCartney in a press release. "Maybe it's to be enjoyed on a long car journey or an evening at home or at a party with friends? So we got our heads together and came up with these diverse playlists from various periods of my long and winding career.”

Although vinyl is my fave format these days, I gotta admit that the 67-track, four-CD version includes some pretty sweet tunes you don't get on the LPs, like "Junior's Farm", "Hi Hi Hi", "Every Night", and "Venus and Mars"/"Rock Show".

And don't get me started on why the best Wings tune, "Medicine Jar", is nowhere to be seen.

Oh yeah, right--that was Jimmy McCulloch's tune.

      R.I.P. Jimmy.
